Lake & Palmer 1977
Cow Palace San Francisco California
UPDATE: The recently released live ELP CD "Live at Nassau Coliseum '78" contains FIVE of my photos from the same tour in San Francisco in 1977! Their special photo section starts off the images below!
ELP played two nights in the Bay Area for this tour, a Thursday night at the Cow Palace on the San Francisco peninsula followed by a Saturday night at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. These photos are from the Cow Palace general admission show where I could get as close as I wanted.
without the orchestra and choir that began the tour with ELP on the
East Coast, the "Works" tour sounded incredible! I couldn't
believe all that music was coming from three people. But there they
were in front of me doing it. Both performances were flawless from beginning
to end, and the sound quality became the standard I judged all other
concerts against. Unfortunately, none ever matched up. This was one of my favorite shows of
all time. I was standing so close to the stage to shoot pictures
at the first show that I didn't see the cannons sitting on top of the
stacks of speakers on either side of the stage when they were uncovered
during "Pirates". So I was completely unprepared for them
firing off a couple of rounds. The first one scared the #%&* out
of me! Kj
